Africell, together with the National Environment Agency (NEA) and the Suwareh Kunda community in the North Bank Region, has planted two thousand trees as part of the company’s landmark “25,000 Trees for 25 Years of Impact” campaign.

The activity brought together almost two hundred participants including children, community leaders and local officials. Mahogany, beechwood, locust bean and kapok trees were planted on land managed by The Gambia’s Forestry Department. With this latest burst of activity, Africell has now reached a total of twenty thousand trees planted, a big step towards achieving the goal of planting twenty-five thousand25,000 by the end of the year.

Speaking at the event, Suwareh Kunda Alkalo, Ibrahima Suwareh, praised Africell’s engagement: “Our children are growing up with a culture of tree planting. They will care for these trees and carry this legacy forward.”

Also in attendance was the Governor of Kerewan, Lamin Saidykhan, who highlighted Africell’s strong track record of supporting local development: “Any institution committed to supporting our women folk is our worthy partner, and Africell has been doing a lot since their inception. I commend them.”

The event also marked the launch of a new borehole project for Suwareh Kunda, which will greatly reduce the distance residents must travel to access water. Africell’s Operations Manager, Hussein, emphasized the importance of this intervention: “Where there is water there is life, and when we plant trees, we are breathing life into our children’s future.”

In addition, Africell distributed footballs and uniforms to the youth, promoting sports and wellbeing as part of its broader social responsibility mission.
