Africell named Gambia’s biggest taxpayer in 2021

Africell wins plaudits as biggest taxpayer in The Gambia last year.

The Gambia Revenue Authority has named Africell as the biggest taxpayer in The Gambia in 2021. Africell is Gambia’s biggest mobile telecommunications operator, employing thousands of people across the country. Africell’s payment of over 1.1. billion dalasis in tax in 2021 – almost 10% of total national tax revenue – reflects the significant value Africell adds to Gambia’s economy and its role as a trusted partner to the Gambian people and government.

Upon accepting the award at a ceremony in Banjul from the President H.E. Mr. Adama Barrow, Africell’s CEO in The Gambia, Hussein Ghanem Diab, said: “Paying tax is an essential contribution that companies like ours can make to the wellbeing and prosperity of the wider community. We are pleased to play our part in sustaining jobs, enabling investment, and using our business activities as a catalyst for wider growth and development in The Gambia. That we have been able to pay so much tax is a testament to the successful year we had in 2021, during which we executed our biggest ever network expansion, delivered ever higher standards of service, and drove forward with our strategy to transform Gambia’s digital landscape”.
