The first anniversary of NBA Africa and Africell’s groundbreaking collaboration in Angola will be marked by an action-packed street basketball tournament in Luanda on 1 and 2 July, during which almost a hundred fans will have the opportunity to compete in teams for exciting and exclusive prizes.

The tournament will involve a total of twelve teams, each with four players. At any one time, each team will have three players on the court with one in reserve. Half the teams will consist of male players, while the other half will consist of female players, reflecting the goal of the NBA Africa x Africell partnership to promote participation in basketball across the whole of Angola society, with an emphasis on women and girls.

During intervals between games, the action will continue with a series of high-tempo skills competitions and shooting contests, giving players and spectators more opportunities to demonstrate their abilities and win prizes. The overall winners in each category of the tournament will receive custom NBA x Africell trophies and an enviable selection of other unique prizes.

Africell’s work with NBA Africa, an iconic American brand, has already created a lot of buzz in Angola, and the ongoing tie-up is a key part of Africell’s broader commitment to use the power of sports to raise awareness of health, wellbeing, and other relevant issues among young people in all its operating markets.
