The Afrimoney Visa Card is a physical card that can be requested by any customer with an Afrimoney account. Once issued, the card operates independently, allowing holders to make secure payments and cash withdrawals at compatible points of sale and ATMs worldwide

Speaking at the launch, CEO of Afrimoney Sierra Leone Martison Obeng-Agyei said the new card reflects Afrimoney’s focus on practical, everyday financial solutions for Sierra Leoneans. He pointed to products such as Tross EDSA, which allows customers to borrow electricity credit in emergencies, and Tross Fuel, which gives transport operators access to fuel on credit, as part of the same philosophy of innovation grounded in real customer needs. He added that the Afrimoney-Ecobank Visa Card was designed specifically to bridge the gap between banked and unbanked populations and thanked the Bank of Sierra Leone for giving regulatory support to the project.

Ecobank Sierra Leone Managing Director Sebastian Ashong-Katai described the partnership as a powerful symbol of innovation and national progress, noting that it brings together the convenience of mobile money with the trust and international connectivity of traditional banking. He highlighted practical use cases including small business owners transacting more easily with international suppliers, young professionals accessing global digital services, and travellers making cross-border payments more easily.

Bank of Sierra Leone Governor Dr. Ibrahim Stevens called the co-branded card a significant milestone in the country’s transition toward a digitally enabled financial system, noting that financial inclusion in Sierra Leone has risen from under 20% to nearly 40% of the population over the past decade.

Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh delivered the keynote address, describing the launch as a practical example of “Techquity”; that is, the use of technology to extend fairness and opportunity to otherwise disadvantaged communities in Sierra Leone.
