For the first time, two Afrimoney operations have been directly connected, enabling customers in The Gambia and Sierra Leone to send money instantly between the two countries.
This development links Afrimoney Gambia and Afrimoney Sierra Leone, marking the first cross-border mobile money connection within the Afrimoney network and opening a new chapter in Africell’s vision of a more connected Africa.
Since 2018, Afrimoney has expanded access to secure, affordable, and inclusive financial services in Africa. The new service strengthens ties between two nations that share deep historical, cultural, and commercial connections. Thousands of people with relatives, friends, and business partners across both countries can now transfer money instantly and conveniently through their Afrimoney wallets.
Importantly, the service is available not only to smartphone users but also to customers using feature phones through USSD, meaning that true financial inclusion remains at the heart of Africell’s mission.
“This is more than a technical achievement; it is a step towards a truly connected African financial ecosystem,” said Sam Williams, Africell’s Group Communications Director. “By connecting Afrimoney Gambia and Afrimoney Sierra Leone, we are bringing families, communities, and businesses closer together while advancing our commitment to enhancing our customer’s digital and financial capabilities.”
