More than fifty thousand people turned out to see Senegalese music superstar Youssou Ndour in a free concert hosted by Afrimoney

More than 50,000 people packed the streets of The Gambia’s capital on 31 May for the annual Youssou Ndour Free Show, one of the largest single entertainment gatherings of the year in The Gambia and an annual traditional proudly hosted by Afrimoney.

For Gambians, a Youssou Ndour performance is more than a concert. The Senegalese superstar is a towering figure in contemporary West African music, and his annual free show on Kairaba Avenue draws grandparents, parents, and children back year after year. This year was no exception, with the crowd spilling from the Traffic Lights intersection out toward the Flyover and beyond. Youssou Ndour was supported by numerous local artists who added zest and fizz to the event and proved in different ways the strong affinity between Gambian and Senegalese music.

Why does this matter for Afrimoney?

Events on this scale don’t just entertain. They build trust. When tens of thousands of people experience a moment of joy and connection under the Afrimoney name, that goodwill translates directly into brand affinity. It’s the difference between a financial platform people utilise and one they feel belongs to them.

Afrimoney deployed a big customer care team to the event, ensuring that concert-goers could use the opportunity to ask questions, get help and explore new products and services

“Trust in Afrimoney isn’t built through transactions alone,” explains Simon Manjang-Andersson, Head of Afrimoney in The Gambia. “It is built through moments that matter to people. Hosting the Youssou Ndour Free Show means tens of thousands of Gambians associate Afrimoney with joy, togetherness, and celebration of our shared culture. That emotional connection is what turns a customer into a loyal advocate, and it’s why we’ll keep investing in the experiences our communities enjoy.”

This kind of mass-scale, feel-good event also does something a traditional advertising campaign can’t: it puts Afrimoney directly inside a shared cultural experience, at a moment when people are already primed to feel good about the brand around them. Afrimoney’s reputation as the platform for The Gambia’s biggest free night out earns the kind of loyalty that lasts well beyond a single evening.
