In a feature published on 14 October 2026, writer Harriet Compston explores how artists, curators and collectives are building Luanda’s creative scene from the ground up. She points to new galleries, growing investment from foundations, and the third edition of a local art fair.
Condé Nast Traveller describes Galeria 10A as “a sleek, state-of-the-art space with panoramic sea views”. The gallery sits on the tenth floor of Africell’s Luanda headquarters in Kings Tower, a short walk from the waterfront.
Led by former Sotheby’s specialist Adriana La Lime, Galeria 10A supports artists through every stage of their work: from early research, to exhibition, to archiving. Since opening in October 2023 with Conexões, a show of sculpture, photography and literature from across Lusophone Africa, it has become a home for Africell’s growing collection of contemporary African art.
Next up at Galeria 10A is Estação Experimental, a new residency programme run in partnership with KinoYetu, the collective co-founded by artist Kiluanji Kia Henda. Each residency ends with a two-month exhibition. Muralist Sarhai da Costa is the first artist in residence.
The Africell Impact Foundation plans to roll out the same residency model in its other markets: the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone and The Gambia.
“Attention on Luanda from publications like Condé Nast Traveller is exactly what we want to see,” says Adriana La Lime. “We know all about Angola’s rich, varied and unconventional arts scene, but many others don’t. We are thrilled for Galeria 10A to be part of a growing list of reasons for people to visit Angola”.
